Types of Assessments

Assessments are valuable tools designed to empower you in various aspects of your life. They offer insights that can contribute to personal growth, effective communication, and making informed decisions about your well-being, education, and career.
Connect with us for more information, or book online today to get started.

Mental Health Assessment

Think of it as a mental health checkup, taking a comprehensive look at your emotional well-being. It delves into factors like: mood, anxiety, attention, behaviour, impacts of trauma, stress levels, coping mechanisms, and overall mental health. The goal is to understand your or your child's current psychological state, and identify strategies to enhance emotional resilience and psychological wellness. Mental Health assessments may be completed virtually.

The cost for a mental health assessment is typically $1,500 - $2,000.

ADHD Assessment

Think of an ADHD assessment like taking a thorough look at how your brain works, especially when it comes to paying attention, staying focused, organizing tasks and controlling impulses. Highlight your brain's superpowers—areas where you excel—, explore challenges you might face due to ADHD traits, and develop strategies and tools to help you manage ADHD-related challenges more effectively. ADHD assessments can be completed in-person or by video-call.

The cost for an ADHD assessment is typically $1,500.

Autism (ASD) Assessment

An autism assessment involves exploring your child's social interactions, communication style, and patterns of behavior. It's like a detailed map that helps you, your child, and your child's support team, understand how your child navigates situations uniquely. This assessment can offer insights into your child's strengths and areas where they might benefit from additional support. Autism assessments require at least one in-person meeting in Victoria, B.C.

The cost for an autism assessment is typically $3,000.

Psychoeducational Assessment

Picture it as a personalized learning guide. A psychoeducational assessment examines your or your child's cognitive abilities, learning styles, and academic strengths and challenges. It's like having a roadmap for your education, helping you  and educators discover effective learning strategies tailored to your or your child's unique strengths and preferences. Psychoeducational assessments require at least one in-person meeting, in Victoria, B.C., or at your school.

The cost for a psychoeducational assessment is typically $2,000 - $3,000.

What to expect during an assessment

1. Intake session

Filling out a consent form and submitting a retainer deposit is required to reserve your intake session booking. Your first meeting with your therapist involves completing a clinical interview, and better understand your mental health experiences. You might discuss your background, current concerns, and any relevant history.

2. Testing session

During your second meeting your therapist will use various tools, such as questionnaires, standardized tests, or activities, to gather more specific information and to understand different aspects of your psychology and experiences, like cognitive functioning, emotions, or behaviors. For example, this may involve tasks that assess memory, problem-solving, attention, emotional well-being, or academic skills. It's like exploring different dimensions of your abilities and challenges.

3. Debrief session

Finally, you and your therapist for a debrief appointment, where you will have a chance to review your formal assessment report together. It's like unveiling the findings of the exploration and discussing what the results mean. This session is often collaborative, with the therapist providing insights and you sharing your thoughts and feelings. Based on the assessment results, your therapist may provide recommendations. These could include strategies to enhance strengths, coping mechanisms for challenges, or interventions that could be beneficial. It's like creating a roadmap for moving forward and addressing any identified areas of concern. There might be a follow-up plan which could involve additional sessions, referrals to other professionals, or ongoing support, ensuring that there's continued assistance and monitoring as needed.

4. What happens next

Once your assessment is completed, you will receive a formal assessment report which you will review together with your therapist in your debrief session. You may then choose to continue working with your therapist to begin counselling treatment, if that's right for you.
