Indigenous Wellness Counsellor

ON

Headshot of Dr. M. Louise Clark, LPsych
Kwey, Hello, Bonjour, Tansi, Aanii.

I am a Registered Indigenous Social Worker with an Honours Bachelor's degree in Indigenous Social Work from Laurentian University and a Master of Social Work in the Indigenous Field of Study from Wilfrid Laurier University.

I bring experience supporting Indigenous youth, adults and families in navigating systems and the impacts of child welfare and therapy. As a 2-Spirited person, I am committed to creating a culturally safe, inclusive, and non-judgmental space where Indigenous, LGBT2S+, and individuals from all backgrounds can feel welcome, seen, heard, and valued.
I work from a (w)holistic lens, grounded in empathy and trust, and guided by the Medicine
Wheel,
which emphasizes balance across the emotional, mental, physical, and spiritual aspects of life. Braiding together Indigenous knowledge of knowing and being with evidence-based methods to meet the diverse needs of those I walk alongside, weaving them together in ways that honour both worlds and lived experiences.
Believing that healing is not a linear process, I acknowledge that we are all experts in our lives, and sometimes we need support in reconnecting with that inner wisdom to navigate anxiety, depression, stress, grief, and trauma to explore experiences that may have felt challenging to face alone.

Together, we can explore your path towards healing, understanding that your journey is sacred and deserving of the utmost care and respect. I look forward to walking alongside you on this transformative journey.
"Self-forgiveness can heal you."

Fun facts
My hobbies include trying new recipes (baking and cooking), spending time in nature with my golden retriever, Yiska, gardening, and curling up on the couch with a book, with the windows open while it is raining. I started a YouTube channel because everyone was telling me I needed to start showing videos of what I am cooking. Plus, it helps me to build more confidence.

I have been in clinical practice since 2019. The frameworks that most inform my practice are: (w)holistic Indigenous Approaches, Two-eyed Seeing, whole person, Person-Centered, CBT, DBT, Integrative, Anti-oppressive practice, Story-Telling/Narrative, systems therapy.

A little about me.

Headshot of Dr. M. Louise Clark, LPsych
Kwey, Hello, Bonjour, Tansi, Aanii.

My name is Veronica, Niya iskwew Michif. I am Red River Métis and Irish. My feet currently
land on the unceded and unsurrendered territory of the Omàmiwinini (meaning "down-river") or Algonquin People. My culture is an important part of who I am, shaping my life and informing my work. I am also shaped by 35 years in the military, as a child and an adult. Growing up surrounded by the military has instilled in me a continued sense of resilience and adaptability, as we often moved and experienced frequent deployments.
My therapeutic style is deeply rooted in (w)holistic Indigenous worldviews of knowing and
being. I believe in addressing the whole person, understanding that our emotional, mental,
physical, and spiritual aspects are intertwined. Guided by the teachings of the medicine wheel, I emphasize the significance of balance in our lives. As I walk alongside both Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples, I often remind them that each journey is unique. Life can often resemble a river; at times it flows smoothly and calmly, while at other moments it can crash and swirl chaotically against the shore. I encourage those I work with to walk kindly and gently with themselves, acknowledging that it's okay to embrace the ebbs and flows of life.

Outside of my professional life, I spend time by the river with my golden retriever, Yiska, whose name means "The night has passed" in Navajo- a beautiful reminder of hope and renewal. My connection to water and nature restores my spirit, and I find peace in spending time in my vegetable garden and watching it grow. I enjoy spending time in my kitchen cooking and baking, exploring new dishes from various cultures, allowing me to connect with the diverse stories and traditions that surround us.
