Online ADHD Assessment for Adults

Get the clarity you've been looking for with a thorough assessment from a licensed psychologist.

Maybe you've always felt like life takes more effort than it seems to for everyone else.

You start projects with the best intentions but struggle to finish them.

You lose track of conversations, miss deadlines, forget appointments, or constantly feel like you're trying to catch up.

Maybe you've wondered: "Is this ADHD?"

Or maybe you've been told it's anxiety. Stress. Burnout. Depression. A lack of motivation.
The truth is that many conditions can look like ADHD.

That's why getting the right answer matters.

At Deep Sea Psychology, our licensed psychologists provide comprehensive online ADHD assessments for adults across Ontario, Alberta, and British Columbia. Rather than relying on a brief checklist or a single conversation, we take the time to understand your experiences, your history, and how your symptoms affect your life today.

Whether your assessment confirms ADHD or points toward something else, our goal is the same:

To provide answers you can trust, and recommendations you can actually use.

Understanding ADHD Requires Looking at the Full Picture

An ADHD assessment isn't simply about answering yes or no.

It's about understanding why you've been struggling.

Many adults seeking an ADHD assessment have spent years feeling overwhelmed, misunderstood, or frustrated by challenges that others don't seem to experience.

Sometimes ADHD is the answer. Sometimes it isn't.

Symptoms such as difficulty concentrating, procrastination, forgetfulness, restlessness, or trouble staying organized can also be associated with anxiety, depression, trauma, sleep difficulties, learning disorders, or other mental health concerns.

A careful assessment helps distinguish between these possibilities so you can move forward with confidence.

Our licensed psychologists take the time to understand the full picture, not just your symptoms today, but the lifelong patterns that help explain them.

Is a Comprehensive ADHD Assessment Right For You?

An ADHD assessment may be a good fit if you are looking for more than a quick screening. Our assessments are designed for adults who want a deeper understanding of their attention, executive functioning, and day-to-day challenges.

You may benefit from a comprehensive assessment if you:
  • have wondered for years whether ADHD could explain your experiences
  • struggle with focus, organization, time management, or completing tasks
  • feel like you work harder than others to stay on top of everyday responsibilities
  • have difficulty maintaining routines despite your best efforts
  • experience challenges at work, school, or in relationships
  • want clarity about whether ADHD, or something else, may be contributing
  • need a formal psychological report to support treatment planning, accommodations, or discussions with healthcare providers

A psychologist-led assessment may be especially helpful if your situation feels complex, you have multiple concerns, or you want a thorough evaluation rather than a quick answer.

Why Choose a Psychologist for Your ADHD Assessment?

Choosing who completes your assessment matters.

A licensed psychologist is trained to evaluate complex patterns of thinking, behaviour, learning, attention, and emotional functioning, not simply whether you meet a checklist for ADHD.

Our assessments are designed to answer important questions like:
  • Is ADHD the best explanation for your experiences?
  • Could another condition be contributing?
  • Are there multiple factors interacting together?
  • What supports are likely to be most helpful moving forward?

Rather than focusing solely on diagnosis, we focus on understanding you.

Because the most valuable assessment isn't the fastest one.

It's the one that gives you confidence in the answers.

Common Misconceptions About Adult ADHD

"ADHD would have been noticed when I was younger."

Many adults are not diagnosed until later in life.

Some people develop strategies that help them compensate for their challenges, while others may not have had symptoms recognized during childhood.

An adult ADHD assessment considers your lifelong patterns, not just what you're experiencing today.

"ADHD means I can't pay attention."

ADHD is not simply a lack of attention.

Many adults with ADHD can focus intensely on things they find interesting but struggle with regulating attention, shifting between tasks, managing priorities, or maintaining focus when tasks feel repetitive or overwhelming.

"I'm successful, so I probably don't have ADHD."

Academic achievement, career success, or appearing organized on the outside does not necessarily mean ADHD is not present.

Many adults spend years developing coping strategies, working longer hours, or putting significant effort into managing challenges that others may not see.

"An ADHD assessment is just a questionnaire."

Questionnaires are one part of an assessment, but they do not tell the whole story.

A comprehensive evaluation considers your history, current functioning, assessment measures, records, and information from relevant people in your life when appropriate.

"Getting diagnosed is the whole point."

A diagnosis can be an important piece of understanding yourself, but it is only the beginning.

The goal of assessment is to provide clarity and recommendations that help you make informed decisions about treatment, accommodations, and support.

Our Online ADHD Assessment Process

We believe a quality assessment can't be rushed.

Each evaluation is designed to gather information from multiple sources so your psychologist can develop a complete understanding of your strengths, challenges, and day-to-day functioning.

1. Free Online ADHD Assessment Consultation

Before beginning your assessment, you'll have a complimentary 15-minute video or phone consultation with an ADHD assessment psychologist.

This is an opportunity to ask questions, learn more about the assessment process, discuss your concerns, and make sure our approach is the right fit for your needs.

We want you to feel comfortable moving forward and confident that a comprehensive ADHD assessment is the appropriate next step for you.

2. Comprehensive Clinical Interview for ADHD

Your assessment begins with an approximately two-hour virtual interview with a licensed psychologist.

During this appointment, you'll discuss your current concerns, developmental history, educational experiences, work history, mental health, medical background, relationships, and how attention and executive functioning affect your daily life.

3. Standardized ADHD Assessment Measures

You'll complete evidence-based assessment tools designed to evaluate areas such as:
  • ADHD symptoms
  • attention
  • executive functioning
  • organization
  • planning
  • working memory
  • emotional regulation
  • other areas of clinical significance

4. Review of Past Records and Collateral Consultation

If available, your psychologist may review information such as:
  • report cards
  • psychoeducational assessments
  • previous psychological reports
  • medical records
  • educational documentation
Historical information often helps identify patterns that have been present across different stages of life.

With your consent, your psychologist may also gather information from someone who knows you well, such as:
  • your physician
  • a parent
  • partner
  • counsellor
  • teacher
  • another healthcare professional
This additional perspective can provide important context and strengthen the assessment process.

5. Diagnostic Formulation and Customized Recommendations

After carefully reviewing all available information, your psychologist determines whether you meet the diagnostic criteria for ADHD and considers whether other conditions may better explain, or also contribute to, your experiences.

Based on your assessment results, your psychologist will present a wholistic picture of your current mental health presentation in the context of an ADHD inquiry, and provide customized treatment recommendations to best support your mental health and wellness. You'll meet with your psychologist for a final debrief meeting where you will have an opportunity to review your assessment results, diagnosis, and recommendations before providing you with a copy of your assessment report.

Your ADHD Assessment Report: More Than a Diagnosis

Following your assessment, you'll receive a comprehensive psychological report prepared by your psychologist.

This isn't simply a diagnosis letter.

It's a detailed summary of the information gathered throughout your assessment, including:
  • your clinical interview
  • assessment results
  • collateral information
  • records reviewed
  • diagnostic conclusions
  • your strengths
  • areas of difficulty
  • individualized recommendations

Your report is designed to be practical, not just informative.

Many clients use it to:
  • discuss medication options with their physician or nurse practitioner
  • support workplace accommodations
  • access academic accommodations
  • guide therapy or ADHD coaching
  • share with healthcare providers involved in their care
  • better understand how ADHD affects their daily life

If you'd like us to send your report to your physician or another healthcare provider, we're happy to do so with your consent.

We Review Everything Together

Receiving a report can feel overwhelming.

That's why every assessment includes a feedback session with your psychologist.

During this appointment, you'll review the findings together, ask questions, discuss recommendations, and ensure you leave with a clear understanding of your results before receiving your final report.

We believe understanding your assessment is just as important as completing it.

Looking Beyond ADHD

Sometimes the assessment confirms ADHD.

Sometimes it identifies another condition.

Sometimes it reveals that several factors are interacting together.

Whatever the outcome, our goal is not simply to assign a diagnosis.

Our goal is to help you better understand yourself, and identify meaningful next steps that support your long-term wellbeing.

Because the right diagnosis leads to the right treatment.

Online ADHD Assessment Frequently Asked Questions

Is the assessment completed online?
Yes. Adult ADHD assessments are completed virtually through secure video appointments for eligible clients living in Ontario, Alberta, and British Columbia.
Is the ADHD Assessment Covered by My Insurance?
We provide direct-billing to most extended health insurance providers and third-party payers, or receipts can be submitted for reimbursement. Coverage varies depending on your individual plan, so we recommend confirming your coverage directly with your insurer before beginning the assessment process.

Before starting a formal assessment, we require a $1,000 retainer deposit by e-transfer. This deposit is applied toward any portion of the assessment fees that are not covered by insurance or another third-party payer.

If there is any remaining balance from your retainer, it can be applied toward other services with Deep Sea Psychology, such as counselling, or returned to you by e-transfer.

The initial 15-minute consultation is complimentary and does not require a deposit.
Can the report be shared with my doctor?
Yes. With your written consent, we can provide your report directly to your physician or another healthcare provider.
Can this assessment be used to discuss medication?
Yes. Many clients choose to share their report with their physician or nurse practitioner to inform conversations about ADHD treatment, including medication options. Prescribing decisions remain the responsibility of your medical provider.
What if I don't have ADHD?
That's an important outcome too.

A comprehensive assessment helps clarify whether ADHD best explains your experiences or whether another condition, or combination of factors, may be contributing. Either way, you'll receive individualized recommendations to help guide your next steps.

You've lived with these questions long enough.

Whether you've suspected ADHD for years or are only beginning to explore the possibility, you deserve an assessment that's thoughtful, comprehensive, and grounded in clinical expertise.

Our psychologists take the time to understand the full picture, so you can move forward with clarity and confidence.

Considering a Psychoeducational Assessment?

For some adults, concerns extend beyond attention and executive functioning.

If there are questions about learning, academic achievement, cognitive functioning, or intellectual abilities, a psychoeducational assessment may be more appropriate or may complement an ADHD assessment.
