Online Mood & Anxiety Disorder Assessment for Adults | Alberta, B.C., Ontario

Get clarity about your mood, anxiety, and emotional well-being with a comprehensive assessment from a registered psychologist.

Maybe you've been feeling unlike yourself lately.

You may be experiencing persistent worry, low mood, irritability, emotional ups and downs, difficulty concentrating, changes in sleep, loss of motivation, or feeling overwhelmed by everyday life.

Maybe you've tried to understand what's happening, but you're still not sure what's behind it.

Is it anxiety? Depression? Burnout? A mood disorder? Something else?

Sometimes the symptoms overlap.

That's why getting the right assessment matters.

At Deep Sea Psychology, our licensed psychologists provide comprehensive online psychological assessments for adults experiencing mood, anxiety, and related concerns.
Rather than relying on a brief questionnaire or focusing on a single symptom, we take the time to understand your history, current experiences, functioning, and the factors that may be contributing to your difficulties.

Our goal is to help you understand the bigger picture and identify meaningful next steps.

Understanding Mood & Anxiety Requires Looking at the Full Picture

Feeling anxious, overwhelmed, sad, or emotionally exhausted doesn't necessarily mean you have a specific mental health disorder. These experiences can have many possible causes. Symptoms can also change over time.

For example, difficulties with mood or anxiety may be associated with:
  • depression
  • generalized anxiety
  • panic
  • social anxiety
  • trauma-related concerns
  • obsessive-compulsive symptoms
  • adjustment difficulties
  • burnout and chronic stress
  • sleep difficulties
  • ADHD or executive functioning difficulties
  • medical or health-related factors
  • significant life changes
  • combinations of several factors

A comprehensive assessment helps your psychologist consider your current symptoms, history, functioning, and broader circumstances rather than looking at one symptom in isolation.

What Is a Mood & Anxiety Assessment?

A psychological assessment is a structured process designed to better understand your emotional and psychological functioning.

Depending on your concerns, your assessment may explore areas such as:

Mood
  • persistent sadness or low mood
  • loss of interest or enjoyment
  • motivation
  • irritability
  • feelings of hopelessness
  • changes in energy
  • changes in sleep or appetite
  • emotional regulation

Anxiety
  • excessive or persistent worry
  • difficulty controlling worry
  • physical symptoms of anxiety
  • panic symptoms
  • fear and avoidance
  • social anxiety
  • difficulty tolerating uncertainty
  • anxiety that interferes with daily life

Broader Psychological Functioning
Your psychologist may also consider:
  • concentration and attention
  • stress
  • coping strategies
  • relationships
  • work and school functioning
  • sleep
  • previous mental health concerns
  • medical history
  • previous treatment
  • developmental history
  • other symptoms that may be relevant

The exact focus of your assessment will depend on your individual concerns.

Is a Mood & Anxiety Assessment Right for You?

A formal assessment may be helpful if you:
  • have been experiencing persistent anxiety or low mood
  • feel that your emotional health has changed significantly
  • are struggling to understand what's causing your difficulties
  • experience symptoms that interfere with work, school, relationships, or daily responsibilities
  • have tried counselling or other support but still don't have a clear understanding of what's happening
  • have been given different explanations for your symptoms
  • experience several concerns at the same time
  • want a professional opinion about your mental health
  • want to better understand whether your symptoms meet criteria for a mental health diagnosis
  • are looking for recommendations to guide future treatment
  • want a formal psychological report to share with your healthcare providers

You don't need to know exactly what's wrong before seeking an assessment.

Understanding what's happening is part of the assessment process.

Our Mood & Anxiety Assessment Process

A quality assessment requires time and careful consideration. Your assessment is designed to provide a detailed understanding of your concerns, mental health functioning, diagnostic clarity, and custom-tailored treatment recommendations.

1. Complimentary 15-Minute Consultation

Before beginning your assessment, you'll have a free 15-minute video or phone consultation with a psychologist.

This gives you an opportunity to:
  • discuss what you're experiencing
  • ask questions about the assessment
  • learn what the process involves
  • determine whether an assessment is appropriate
  • make sure our approach is a good fit

There's no obligation to proceed.

2. Comprehensive Clinical Interview

Your psychologist will meet with you virtually for a detailed clinical interview.

Depending on your concerns, you may discuss:
  • current symptoms
  • mood and emotional functioning
  • anxiety and worry
  • stress
  • sleep
  • concentration
  • relationships
  • work or school
  • medical history
  • mental health history
  • previous treatment
  • developmental and personal history
  • factors that may have contributed to your current difficulties

This helps your psychologist understand not only what you're experiencing, but also how it developed and how it's affecting your life.

3. Standardized Assessment Measures

Your psychologist may utilize evidence-based psychological measures to assess areas relevant to your concerns.

These may examine aspects of:
  • depression
  • anxiety
  • mood
  • stress
  • emotional functioning
  • related psychological symptoms

The measures selected will depend on your individual presentation and referral questions.

4. Review of Relevant Information

Where appropriate and with your consent, your psychologist may review relevant information such as:
  • previous psychological reports
  • medical records
  • treatment history
  • information from other healthcare providers
  • other documentation that may help clarify your history

This information can help provide additional context and clarify patterns over time.

5. Diagnostic Formulation & Treatment Recommendations

Your psychologist will carefully review the information gathered throughout the assessment.

They will consider:
  • your symptoms
  • the duration and severity of your concerns
  • your history
  • your current functioning
  • assessment results
  • other relevant psychological factors

The goal is to develop a whole-person understanding of your current presentation.
Depending on the assessment, your psychologist may determine that your symptoms are consistent with a particular diagnosis, that another explanation is more appropriate, or that multiple factors are contributing.

6. Assessment Debrief Session

Once the assessment is complete, you'll meet with your psychologist to review the findings.

You'll have an opportunity to:
  • understand the results
  • ask questions
  • discuss diagnostic conclusions
  • understand recommendations
  • talk about potential next steps

We believe receiving an assessment should be a collaborative, empowering, and therapeutic process.

You shouldn't have to read a report alone and try to figure out what it means.

Your Mood & Anxiety Assessment Report

Following your assessment, you'll receive a comprehensive written report prepared by your psychologist.

Depending on the nature of your assessment, your report may include:
  • reason for referral
  • relevant background information
  • clinical interview findings
  • standardized assessment results
  • relevant psychological history
  • diagnostic formulation
  • diagnostic conclusions
  • strengths
  • areas of difficulty
  • individualized recommendations
  • suggested next steps

Your report can provide a useful clinical summary that you can discuss with your physician, therapist, or other healthcare providers.

With your consent, we can also provide your report to another healthcare professional involved in your care.

What If the Assessment Doesn't Result in a Diagnosis?

That's okay.

An assessment isn't a process of trying to find a diagnosis at all costs.

Sometimes symptoms don't meet criteria for a particular disorder.

Sometimes stress, life circumstances, sleep, medical factors, or other concerns provide important context.

Sometimes more than one condition is present.

The purpose of assessment is to develop the most accurate understanding possible based on the information available. Whatever the outcome, your psychologist will discuss the findings with you and provide recommendations for appropriate next steps.

Why Choose a Psychological Assessment for Mood & Anxiety?

Real Clarity through a Diagnostic Psychological Assessment

A formal assessment considers information from multiple sources and places your symptoms within the context of your history and current functioning. Your psychologist will integrate the information gathered during your assessment to determine whether your presentation is consistent with a particular diagnosis and whether other factors may also be relevant.

Understand What May Be Contributing

Mood and anxiety symptoms can overlap with many different psychological and situational factors. A comprehensive assessment can help your psychologist consider different possibilities rather than focusing on one explanation from the outset. You'll receive a comprehensive report summarizing the assessment findings, diagnostic conclusions, and recommendations. Your psychologist will review your findings with you and explain what they mean.

Receive Individualized Recommendations

The purpose of an assessment isn't simply to provide a diagnosis. Your results can help inform decisions about treatment, therapy, medical follow-up, accommodations, and other supports. Your assessment is guided by your concerns and the questions you want answered.

Online Mood & Anxiety Assessment Frequently Asked Questions

Will I receive a written report?
Yes. Following your assessment, you'll receive a comprehensive psychological report summarizing the relevant findings, diagnostic conclusions, and recommendations.
Can I share the report with my doctor or therapist?
Yes.

With your consent, your report can be shared with your physician, therapist, or other healthcare providers involved in your care.
What happens after the assessment?

You Deserve Clarity About What You're Experiencing

You don't have to spend months trying to figure out whether what you're experiencing is anxiety, depression, stress, burnout, a mood disorder, or something else.

A comprehensive psychological assessment can help you understand the bigger picture.

At Deep Sea Psychology, our registered psychologists take the time to understand your experiences, provide clear clinical feedback, and offer recommendations tailored to your needs.
