MC, RPsych (she/her)

(CAP #8035, CHCPBC #04104, Yukon #3630-20-32-085)

Clinical Psychologist

Alberta, B.C., Yukon

Headshot of Heather Johnson, RPsych
I am a dedicated and compassionate Registered Psychologist, registered in Alberta, British Columbia and Yukon. I provide person-centred, trauma-informed care, fostering a therapeutic environment built on trust, empathy, and acceptance.

I offer an integrative approach to therapy for individuals and couples, focusing on emotional connection, attachment, mindfulness, self-compassion, and identifying underlying behavioural and relationship patterns. I help clients navigate concerns such as trauma, anxiety, and relationship challenges, tailoring each therapeutic plan to their unique needs.
My clinical approach integrates evidence-based techniques such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), and Mindfulness-based and attachment-focused counselling
I also conduct formal psychological assessments, including psychoeducational and ADHD assessments, and mental health evaluations. My diverse client base includes adults, couples, and youth. I have extensive experience working with domestic violence and helping parents navigate co-parenting conflicts.
Sessions take place either online or in person in Calgary, Alberta. I am committed to cultural competence, have experience working with Indigenous communities, and accept NIHB insurance.

My goal is to cultivate a safe and supportive therapeutic environment where clients can explore concerns, gain insights, and achieve lasting change.

I look forward to partnering with you on your journey toward improved well-being,
whether through assessment or therapy.

A little about me.

Headshot of Heather Johnson, RPsych
Welcome! I'm Heather Johnson, and I'm delighted to share a little about my journey both personally and professionally. As a person-centered therapist, I believe deeply in the human capacity for growth and change, and it is truly an honor to bear witness to my clients' most vulnerable stories. My aspiration is to create a warm, approachable, and validating space, where we can explore challenging topics and experiences without hesitation.

My roots are firmly planted in Alberta, where I grew up amidst the expansive landscapes that ignited my lifelong love for the outdoors. With my grandparents being ranchers, I spent countless hours immersed in nature, fostering a deep connection to the natural world that continues to inspire me.
At home, I am a proud mother of three: two adult sons and a teenage daughter, whom we adopted at birth. My family is incredibly important to me, and our bond is a source of immense joy and strength. For over a decade, I've also been navigating the journey of co-parenting with my children's father following our divorce. This experience has deepened my understanding of resilience, communication, and the ever-evolving dynamics of family.

My own journey of self-discovery includes an adult diagnosis of ADHD, which came after my sons received their diagnoses. This personal experience has enriched my empathy and insight into neurodiversity, both in my personal life and in my practice.

Beyond my professional life and family, my passions are varied and vibrant. I'm an avid animal lover, with a special place in my heart for dogs and horses. For over 30 years, I've dedicated my time to volunteering with animal rescues, fostering many dogs and helping them find their forever homes.

When I'm not working or with my family, you'll often find me with my nose in a book, tending to my garden, or exploring the majestic mountains through hiking or skiing. I also enjoy delving into indie films, immersing myself in the energy of music festivals, and exploring new places through travel. My commitment to well-being extends to my personal practice; I've been practicing yoga and meditation for 25 years, and mindfulness is an integral part of my daily life and therapeutic approach. Welcome!
