Meet Dr. M. Louise Clark

PhD, LPsych (she/her)

(CHCPBC #1017196)

Licensed Clinical Psychologist

B.C.

Headshot of Dr. M. Louise Clark, LPsych
I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist in British Columbia, based on Vancouver Island. Following the completion of my Ph.D. in Psychology at the University of Waterloo, I undertook a postdoctoral clinical internship and subsequently held a faculty appointment with the Department of Psychiatry at McMaster University Medical Centre in Hamilton, Ontario. Over the course of my career, I have worked extensively with youth, adults, and families in both private practice and a wide range of clinical settings.
My experience includes providing services through employee assistance programs and working with first responders, health care professionals, veterans, youth involved with the justice system, and individuals and families living in remote communities throughout British Columbia. I have also provided services through outpatient pediatric and psychiatric clinics, schools, and community-based settings. In recent years, I have expanded access to care by offering exclusively virtual assessment and treatment.
My approach is compassionate, collaborative, and strengths-based; grounded in evidence-based best practices. I have a particular interest in supporting individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, and trauma, with specialized expertise in Adult Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and intergenerational mental health challenges. Having had the privilege of working with clients from diverse cultural backgrounds, I welcome each person's unique experiences and perspectives.
I believe that we are all a work in progress, and that growth and resilience are inherent human capacities. Although life presents challenges, we all possess the ability to heal, adapt, and thrive.

It is both an honour and a privilege to accompany you on your journey as you recognize your strengths, build resilience, and move toward living with greater confidence, meaning, and well-being.

I want you to know that you do not have to navigate these challenges alone.

A little about me.

Headshot of Dr. M. Louise Clark, LPsych
My background and career so far
I'm a Licensed Clinical Psychologist in British Columbia with many years of experience helping youth, adults, and families navigate life's challenges. Throughout my career in both BC and Ontario, I've had the privilege of working with people from many different backgrounds and cultures in a variety of settings, including private practice, hospitals, schools, community clinics, treatment centres, Indigenous communities, employee assistance programs, disability management, youth justice, and with health care workers, first responders, veterans, and clients challenged by the impacts of addiction and trauma. I have held university teaching positions at McMaster University Medical School and Vancouver Island University and provided research presentations at national and international conferences.
Virtual practice and self-care
For several years, I've been focusing on creating a virtual psychology practice, making it
easier for people to access care wherever they live. Personally, I feel fortunate to live
near the ocean. Walking on the beach is my way of restoring energy, finding gratitude,
and appreciating the calming natural beauty of the environment surrounding us.

How I work
I believe that every person has a unique and important story, and that feeling heard,
understood, and respected is the foundation of meaningful and effective therapy. As a
psychologist, I see people as works in progress rather than defined by their struggles.
My approach is warm, compassionate, collaborative, and evidence based. I integrate
Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) with strategies from Acceptance, Mindfulness,
Positive Psychology, and specific trauma-informed interventions. I consider oppressive
social factors, such as poverty, racism, abuse, interpersonal and domestic violence,
intergenerational trauma, and forced migration as important when assessing mental
health.

Who I work with
I’m interested in helping youth and adults with ADHD, anxiety, depression, FASD,
PTSD, emotional dysregulation, and the impact of difficult life experiences such as grief,
loss, and medical crises. In addition to therapy, I offer comprehensive psychological
assessments to help people gain a clearer understanding of themselves and identify
practical steps forward.

Whether you're seeking a wholistic individualized assessment, support through therapy,
or both, I look forward to collaborating with you towards positive change.
