Headshot of Alexa Tyler
Each person’s experiences can only be witnessed and felt from their own perspective. I recognize that every person has an innate human need to be heard, witnessed, respected, and honoured in those experiences.

The focus of my practice is to honour your unique feelings, circumstances, and experiences without interpreting them. My goal is to find the deepest meanings to your experiences. I want to help you heal from those experiences and help you to integrate them into becoming empowered to live your fullest life.
I am a Registered Clinical Social Worker in BC and Alberta. I have expertise in mental health assessment, diagnosis, and treatment. I am a play therapist certified in the US and Canada. I have worked with Indigenous families across BC and Alberta. I have experience with hundreds of individuals in BC and nationwide. I am licensed in most Canadian jurisdictions and I provide telehealth services to many individuals from many different backgrounds and various walks of life in both French and in English.
I am enthusiastic and passionate in my practice. I honour the connection between the mind, body, and soul. I incorporate the holistic side of health into my practice and personal life. Personal health includes nutritious food, exercise, sunshine, and a healthy lifestyle. I am a dually certified yoga teacher, a Reiki healer and have training in acupressure.

A little about me.

Headshot of Alexa Tyler
I was born in Calgary but I grew up in Texas. My father is African Canadian from New Brunswick and my mother is French Canadian from Quebec. My younger brother and I grew up in various cities in Texas and we would spend our summers in the country in Quebec with my grandparents. I am fully bilingual in French and in English and I can understand quite a bit of Spanish from growing up on the US/ Mexican border.

In 2009 after some trials and tribulations my family moved to BC. Due to economic opportunities in the US my family ended up leaving BC and I chose to stay. That time alone away from my family gave me a lot of time to reflect. I was a student in university quite occupied by studies but nothing satisfied my questioning mind. I was curious about the human condition, I was curious about suffering, and what it all meant.
In 2011 I had an opportunity of a lifetime. I met my current best friend who had enough
energy and adventure in her for the both of us. I dropped out of university and we
travelled for 6 months all across the US and Canada. Upon getting back to BC we soon
departed to Southeast Asia and spent just under a year travelling and exploring. My
best friend has the true explorer’s spirit meanwhile I was the lucky tag along who was
working busily on integrating everything we saw everything we experienced. We went to
historical sites, world wonders, temples of every faith, and any adventure we could
manage to embark on. The next 4 years followed the same trajectory.

While I was overseas, I decided to go back to school. I applied to schools in Canada for
my bachelor of social work and was accepted at an Indigenous institution in BC. I
started my studies there and continued my schooling to do my master of social work at
an American institution that specialized in remote and underserved populations.

Upon graduating I have worked at a number of Indigenous organizations in BC and
have served many different communities. Today I have experience working in French
and in English across Canada with people from many walks of life. I try to do my best
and my part to help mitigate the suffering and injustice that people have endured. My
desire to understand the human condition and to make sense of what we as humanity
face is always pushing me forward. It is always moving me to explore what I haven’t
looked at, and to be curious of what frightens us as a race. I actively work to educate
myself and to become an ally in any way I can for any oppressed peoples. It is only
through the understanding of the human condition and integration of so many aspects of
life that we can work together to find peace and meaning in our experiences so we can
live our fullest lives.

When I am not working, I am spending my time with my family. We are very active,
outgoing, and engaged in the community. We are always working on enriching our lives
and enriching the lives of others.
